Pond Filter Combinations
Pond filters are
used to break down dangerous fish waste, protect
the pump from debris, and trap some of the
suspended particles in the water.
They reduce the growth of
algae in the pond by removing the nutrients that
the algae needs to grow. The filter, however, is
not designed to keep the pond crystal-clear like
an aquarium filter is supposed to do.
Filters can be used together to increase their
productivity in general. Several filters can be
used in conjunction to take advantage of the
strong points of each filter. There are several
types of filters available, each used for a
specific purpose.
An intake filter is used mostly to keep large
and dangerous particles from damaging the pump.
It is place before the pump intake. They are
inexpensive and easy to use, but must be cleaned
often to remain effective and keep from becoming
too clogged to use. They are great when used in
conjunction with an external filter.
The external filter is the largest kind, and is
used above ground or partially buried near the
pond. It is attached to the output end of the
pump. This filter greatly improves water quality
and can support the largest fish-load, however
it is large and difficult to hide, and the water
must be allowed to drain specifically into the
pond instead of being used for a waterfall or
fountain.
This particular combination allows the filters
to work together to keep the pond looking it’s
best and keep the environment healthy for the
fish. It also allows a longer period to pass
between filter cleanings.
There are several other kinds of filters
including submersed filters and in-line filters,
which can also be used in conjunction with other
filters in the system. Submersed filters are
often used on the intake end of the pump, while
in-line filters are usually used on the output
end. They are both more versatile, however, and
can be used on either end of the pump.
The combination of two filters can be the answer
you are looking for to keep you pond clean and
clear for your fishy friends.
